Holidays are here!

Published by Carol at 11:18 pm under Carol's Post

Thanksgiving is over, and Christmas is coming soon! We had a lovely time for Thanksgiving this year… it was a much smaller celebration than the last couple of years. Doug and I went over to Tim and Kerrianne’s house and we enjoyed a day with just the 6 of us. We had lots of food (as usual), then after a nap we played games and watched movies. First we laughed at ‘Hairspray’ and then enjoyed ‘Amazing Grace’. And of course we are so thankful for the precious girl growing inside of me this year.
I was pregnant last year on Thanksgiving too, I just didn’t know it yet. Unfortunately that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at 10 weeks in January. But now, a year later, it feels as though that loss has been redeemed. I have a new life growing inside of me and I can feel her kicking around every-so-often. Going through that extremely difficult experience makes this pregnancy even more precious to me. We do have so much to be thankful for. I’m thankful for God’s redeeming love, and his care for our family at all times. He brought us through a very hard time at the beginning of this year with truly the peace that passes all understanding. We are thankful.

On the day after Thanksgiving we were not about to join the crowds of people shopping, so we decided to put up our Christmas lights! Then Saturday we went to a tree farm and cut down our Christmas tree! It is up with lights on it, but we haven’t gotten to decorating yet. I’m sure that will happen in the next few days. I’ll have to put an old Christmas movie on to listen to while I do my indoor decorating. It’s always fun to decorate for Christmas… and this year we’ll actually be at home for Christmas rather than traveling! I will miss seeing my family in Virginia this year, but I’m looking forward to not having to fly during one of the busiest times of the year! I think it’s the first year I haven’t flown during the Christmas/New Year’s holidays since 1999/2000. Well except for 2001/2002 when I drove across the country during that week to move out west! So, anyway, we are enjoying getting in the holiday spirit! It’s fun to think of this as our last Christmas as just the two of us (plus the dog of course)… knowing next year we’ll have presents for one more under the tree… I hope all of you enjoyed your Thanksgiving, and are starting to get in the Christmas spirit as well!
