A Day Trip in February

Published by Carol at 2:36 pm under Carol's Post

So Mid-Winter break has arrived, and I’m enjoying my week off so far! I’ve had a few lazy days just enjoying being home, watching some TV, the Olympics, some old movies, learning to knit, etc.? But also have had a couple fun days of exploring.? On Sunday Doug and I took the ferry over to the Olympic Peninsula for a fun day trip.? The sun was shining and it was a perfect day for a Sunday drive.? Our main destinations were Sequim and Port Townsend.? For our first stop, we went to Sequim Bay State Park where we had a picnic lunch on the dock.? The nice thing about picnicking in February is that you have the place to yourself!? We didn’t let the chilly weather stop us from enjoying the beautiful day.? ?

After our lunch we drove on to Sequim where we stopped at a beach on the straight of Juan de Fuca.? The most interesting part about that stop was watching the seagulls get their dinner.? The seagull would find a clam, hold it in its beak, fly up high, and drop it on a hard surface to crack it open.? It seemed to be working for them - although we were careful not to drive under a high-flying seagull, as the road was one of their favorite places to drop the clams!?

Our final stop of the day was Port Townsend, where we enjoyed stopping in several little shops and looking at things we would never buy!? Of course I did find some yarn and a book on knitting to get started with my newest hobby.? It was a nice leisurely day followed by an entertaining evening.? Port Townsend was having a lantern festival to celebrate the Chinese New Year.? Doug and I aren’t that into celebrating the Chinese New Year, but we thought the show would be unique and fun, and that it was!? There were several people dancing with fire, eating fire, juggling fire, and you get the idea.? Despite the cold we enjoyed ourselves on our fun day trip to add variety to the beginning of my week off.? Enjoy more pictures by clicking on one below…

It looks like you guys had a fun time in Sequim but next time you should take the ferry to Bainbridge Island for the day and let us take you around for the day. I would love for you guys to meet Quentin, my 6 week old son! He’s beautiful to say the least.
